The Shadow Rider {A Black Butler/Kuroshitsuji Fanfic}

The Shadow Rider

Description:

A mysterious girl has turned up at the Phantomhive manner, and meanwhile an elusive murderer is lingering in the shadows of London. The matter rests on Ciel and Sebastian's shoulders, and if they don't bring the killer to justice, more and more innocent citizens are expected to die...

Chapter One

Ciel Phantomhive aimlessly gazed outside the large window of his study, listening to the howling wind of the first snowstorm of the Winter. He relinquished his sight from the window, and contemplated the half-full teacup sitting upon his dark wooden desk. Ciel wasn't even in the mood for tea anymore.

"Sebastian," Ciel said, turning his head to his butler who was standing next to the boy's desk. "Clean this up, I don't wish to have anymore tea."

"Yes, of course, young master," Sebastian nodded, and cleared Ciel's teacup off of his desk. "Are you in need of anything else?"

"I wish to retire for the night after you are finished putting that away," Ciel replied simply, sitting down at his desk.

"Yes, my lord." Sebastian cleared off the rest of the tea set and slipped out of the room through the door.

Ciel lightly tapped his fingers upon his desk, and in no time at all Sebastian returned. Just as Sebastian stepped back into the room he heard the faint sound of knocking at the main doors. "I wonder who that could be at this late hour," Sebastian stated. "Master, shall I get the door?"

"Yes, but make it quick," Ciel sighed impatiently, resting his head on his hand. Sebastian nodded briefly, and made his way to the main doors.

As Sebastian opened the doors cold air rushed in, with it carrying swirling snow. The butler was rather surprised to see a young girl standing at the doorstep. She wore a cloak of black velvet with silver accents, and she held a bag with her. She looked chilled to the bone.

"Please sir, might I possibly stay the night here?" the girl asked quietly. Her unusual light colored, stormy gray eyes gazed expectantly at Sebastian.

"Yes, of course miss," Sebastian replied. "Please, come inside." The girl willingly stepped into the warm mansion, and Sebastian closed the doors behind her. "Please come this way," Sebastian said to the girl, and led her up the stairway to an empty guest room. "Please do sit down and warm up a while. If you'll excuse me, I must advise my master that you will be staying the night."

"Thank you, sir," the girl said graciously, settling herself down onto the comfortable bed. Sebastian made his way to Ciel's study and pushed open the door.

"Who was that?" Ciel asked.

"A young girl, about your age," Sebastian replied. "She is seeking shelter for the night. It is alright that she will be staying with us tonight, right young master?"

"Yes, it's fine," Ciel said. "See to it that she gets everything she needs. I will wait in here."

"Yes, my lord," Sebastian said, and again walked off to the guest room. "Can I get you anything miss? Perhaps some tea to warm you up?" Sebastian asked the girl.

"No, but thank you very much," the girl replied, and then asked,"Is your master alright with me staying here?"

"Yes, he is," Sebastian said. "He has instructed me to be sure to get you anything you need."

"Please be sure to thank him for me," the girl said. "And I do not need anything else for tonight, I can prepare myself for bed. Thank you again."

"It was my pleasure, do sleep well miss," Sebastian said, and walked outside, closing the door behind him.

"I assume she did not wish for anything?" Ciel asked as Sebastian entered the room yet again. "All young ladies are the same, it seems to me. They are polite and quiet, and adore 'cute' things. Honestly, it's quite pathetic that they don't wish for necessary things."

"Oh, but I believe this young miss will be quite different," Sebastian said, a faint smile playing upon his lips.

"You know something that you are not telling me, Sebastian, but I honestly don't care what it is right now. Just prepare me for bed already."

"Yes, my lord." Sebastian quickly changed Ciel out of his daily wear, and into his night clothing. He turned out the lights and silently exited the room. Sebastian then disappeared into the dark hallway, hidden among the black shadows.
