Monisha Kaltenborn believes Sauber can still catch Mercedes ? Formula 1 news
Sauber team principal, Monisha Kaltenborn believes that they can still catch Mercedes in the remaining two races of the 2012 Formula 1 season, if they work hard for it.
The Swiss team has performed impressively well in the season so far and has proved its potential as one of the most competitive midfield contenders in this year?s championship.
At present, Sauber are standing at 6th place in the constructors? championship. Moreover, they are ahead of Force India and are behind their main rival, Mercedes.
Kaltenborn has said that they are targeting to secure fifth place in the championship and are aiming is to beat the Brackley based team. Furthermore, she said that although it is extremely difficult to close the gap to their major opponent in the last two grands prix. Nevertheless, she asserted that they can surely achieve their goal, if they keep on pushing hard.
?It is, but it's very tough. And we fully aware of that,? Kaltenborn said.
In addition, she said that they have developed a competent car which can challenge their rival in the forthcoming races.
?This is about optimising things. It's not about developing anything,? she said. ?We know that we have a competitive car.?
Besides, she said that they are trying their best to improve their car?s pace so as to compete with the Silver Arrows in the upcoming races. She also said that their objective is to enhance their qualifying pace in order to secure higher grid slots for the races ahead.
?If we get our act together during a race weekend, especially during the race but also in qualifying to start with, things can look good. But we are fighting against a very good team, so it's going to be very tough,? she said.
?We have never said that we are making his future dependent on single occasions, in either direction - good or bad,? she added.
It will be exciting to see how their drivers, Sergio Perez and Kamui Kobayashi, perform in the United States Grand Prix which is going to held this weekend at Circuit of The Americas in Austin, Texas.
