In the United States, 110 million consumers have searched for legal help at least once in their lives. Attorneys who want to earn the trust of a significant percentage of those Americans must develop online presences that communicate the best qualities and successes of their legal firms.

According to a new report from LexisNexis, attorneys and law firms should learn how to position themselves and their businesses on the web in order to be found by prospective clients. According to Phil Livingston, CEO of Web-Based Marketing Solutions at LexisNexis, attorneys should consider developing content marketing approaches that utilize search engine optimization (SEO) and use social media marketing to promote information.

Law Search EngineThe recent study from LexisNexis shows that 57 percent of respondents hired an attorney after searching the web. More, 39 percent of prospects used online search engines to gather information, 35 percent used these hubs to find attorneys, 23 percent used search portals to validate their beliefs and 20 percent selected firms based on information they compiled via online search.

The majority of consumers searching the web for legal advice used Google. Thirty-six percent use Google to gather insights on their potential cases, 29 percent to find information on lawyers, 18 percent to validate legal representatives and 14 percent to select the right option. More than any other search engine, Google was the most-used resource for finding legal help, and attorneys must optimize their websites and social accounts to educate prospects throughout their research processes and improve brand visibility through search engine queries.

Lawyers need to be visible in Google results, but also put forward best-in-class information to hold search visitors? interest. Nielsen?s Global Trust in Advertising and Brand Messages found that 52 percent of females trust branded websites, compared to 51 percent of males. This report combined with the data published by LexisNexis shows that attorneys who want to increase their customer base and potentially their profit margins should consider outsourcing content marketing strategies aimed at boosting brand recognition on the internet.
